James D. Zachary

James D. Zachary 79, of Roachdale, passed away Thursday evening June 22, 2023 at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. James was born February 28, 1944 in Crawfordsville to the late Forrest Zachary and Mary (Sorrels) Gowin. He was a 1962 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. He went on the serve his country in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He retired from the Indiana Army National Guard. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service during the Vietnam Campaign, along with the National Defense Service Medal also during the Vietnam Campaign. James drove truck for Schwan’s for 4 years. James was an avid camper, he also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and golfing along with spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter Kimberly McKell (Charles) of Palmetto, FL, two sons; James D. Zachary Jr. (Kristi) of Westfield, IN, and Trevor Shane Zachary of Hillsboro, IN, a brother Mark Zachary (Rhonda) of Ladoga, IN, two sisters; Annette Justus of Valparaiso, IN and Lori Dossett (Phil) of Crawfordsville, IN, four grandchildren, Chaz, Travis, Christina, and Kennedy along with six great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father Bill Gowin, a brother David Zachary, and a sister Sharon Posthauer.

Visitation will be from 4pm – 7pm on Tuesday June 27, 2023 at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home in Roachdale, IN.

Services will be at 11am Wednesday June 28, 2023 also at the funeral home officiated by David Bower. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery Waveland, IN. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the U.S. Army.
