American Legion July Newsletter
Wow the weather has been Miserable this month, but it looks like it may change. Well I had 20 veterans in my office this month, we had 11 trips to the VA Hospitals this month and I had 54 phone calls into my office.
I will be at the American Legion Post 72 on Thursday the 6th of July from 1 pm to 2:30 pm and I will be at the VFW Post 1431 on July 20th from 3 pm to 5 pm.
I will also be on Vacation the week July 10th thru the 16th of July but if you need to go to the VA please call me at 765-401-0432.
Now we have an opportunity to do something great MG Richard Chastain is having his 90th birthday which will be held on Aug. 5, 2023 In Darlington Armory between the time of 1300-1700 hrs. (1 pm to 5pm). For those that know him you could send him a card to PO Box 751, Crawfordsville, IN 47933 to DeAntha Wright-Thornburg. Please let’s be there. Program at 2 pm with General Black and a Proclamation from our Mayor.
Post 9/11 combat veterans who served between 2001-2013 have until Sept. 30th to enroll in Dept. of Veteran Affairs Health Care. The date will conclude an Ion of the Pact Act took effect in 2022. It gave the potential to receive compensation to millions of veterans or their survivors who were exposed to n and toxic chemicals while in uniform, going back to the 1960’s.
The American Legion Post 72 has started to Provide the community a dynamic, Educational based Memorial Park with a focus on honoring all veterans and their role in preserving the freedom and rights that we as Americans hold dear.
We are a member of the Crawfordsville Chamber of Commerce and by the Secretary of State as a non-profit with a 501c3 designation. Very soon we anticipate approval from the federal government. As a veteran you may purchase a Brick for you or a relative to commemorate their service. The Bricks will cost $100. 00 each and I have the forms or you can pick them up from the American Legion Post 72. Our Priority is to Acquire the Centerpiece of the Park, a refurbished 1969 H Model Huey Helicopter. The cost of the Huey including transportation to the C-Ville site and preparation is $50,000. Our Goal Is to have the Huey in Place by Veteran’s day 2023.
