Intern With The Indiana Senate
By: Spencer Deery
The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus is offering paid spring-semester internships in its communications, information technology, legal, legislative, page and policy offices during the 2024 legislative session.
Qualified candidates may be of any major and must be at least a college sophomore. Recent college graduates, as well as graduate and law school students, are also encouraged to apply. Positions are open to Indiana residents, as well as nonresidents who attend an Indiana college or university.
Interns earn a $900 biweekly stipend and benefit from scholarship and academic credit opportunities, professional development, community involvement and networking.
Senate internships are full-time positions at the Statehouse in Downtown Indianapolis that typically begin with a mandatory orientation in late December and conclude at the end of the legislative session in March 2024.

Local Farms Awarded Hoosier Homesteads
Two locally owned farms were honored with Hoosier Homestead Awards at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Wednesday, Aug. 16.
The Basinger Farm, in operation since 1918, received the centennial award and the Coleman Farm, in operation since 1824, received the sesquicentennial award.
The Hoosier Homestead Award program honors families who have made significant contributions to Indiana agriculture. In the past 47 years, more than 5,800 farms have received the honor.
These farms are amazing examples of Hoosier farmers’ perseverance. The agriculture industry contributes $35.1 billion to Indiana’s economy, and I am happy to see the families who help make our state strong receive the recognition they deserve.
To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year. The award distinctions are Centennial, Sesquicentennial and Bicentennial – for 100, 150 and 200 years, respectively.

Vermillion County Extension Annual Meeting
I was fortunate to attend the Vermillion County Purdue Extension annual meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
It was great to see some familiar faces, make new friends in the county and get an update from the Extension office about the work it has done.
