Charles Dale Taylor

Charles “Dale” Taylor, age 85, of Crawfordsville passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at his home. He was born in Crawfordsville on September 23, 1937 to the late Walter C. and Sarah E. (Largent) Taylor.

Dale attended Crawfordsville Schools and graduated with Military Achievement GED diploma from Crawfordsville High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. While serving on active duty he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was in the 2nd Battalion 5th Marines 1st Marine Division. During his time in the Marines, he was involved in one of the largest atomic bomb tests at the Nevada test site, which was documented to be 3 ½ times larger than that of Hiroshima.

Dale married the love of his life, Phyllis L. McCrarey, on September 28, 1957, she survives. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always taking care of the needs of his family. He worked at McDaniel Freight as a truck driver, Pepsi Cola as a route salesman, and Roadway Express as an over-the-road truck driver, retiring in 1995. Before retiring from Roadway Express, he was recognized for driving 1,750,000 miles without an accident along with a total accumulation of 2,500,000 miles of safe driving. Dale was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, Masonic Lodge Alamo #144, Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Anyone that knew Dale, knew he was meticulous with his yard and car and was always the best dressed.

Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; son, Michael R. (Laura) Taylor; daughters, Patricia “Lynn” (Jerry) Richards, Pamela “Pam” (Brad) Carpenter, and Darlena (Brandon) Wright; grandchildren, Jeremy Richards, Kamryn (Cody) Rescigno, Katie Taylor, Cory Taylor, Heath Taylor; Mackenzie Carpenter, Morganne Carpenter, Marleigh (Philip) Burger, Matt Carpenter, Keaton Wright, Xavier Wright, Brandon (Jessica) Kohr, Matthew Kohr, and Rylee Kohr; great-grandchildren, Gavyn Richards, Kaleb Rescigno, Henry Burger, Waylon Kohr, and one on the way; two sisters-in-law, Karen Taylor and Delores Taylor; and several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence “Sonny” Taylor, Ronald “Ronnie” Taylor, and Larry “Dean” Taylor; and sister, Patricia “Pat” Ward.
