Rep. Genda Shares Update
Almost half of Indiana’s energy goes toward powering the state’s growing industrial sector. Companies and businesses continue to make Indiana their home, expanding the economy but also putting more demands on our energy grid. | |
To meet the increasing need for energy while keeping cost low for Hoosiers, House Bill 1007 would reduce barriers to entry for companies looking to use small modular nuclear reactors to generate energy. SMRs are compact sources of energy that can be used alone or with other similar sources to create energy for a single location or numerous residential, commercial and industrial locations. Companies that need large amounts of energy may be able to utilize SMRs to supplement generation without burdening the grid. Embracing this technology will help support economic development, reduce potential energy costs for Hoosiers and keep our power grid reliable. SMRs would overall enable Indiana to reinforce its five pillars of energy policy, which are reliability, affordability, resiliency, stability and environmental sustainability. House Bill 1007, a House Republican priority bill, recently passed the House of Representatives. To follow the legislative process, watch session and stream committee meetings, visit iga.in.gov. Rep.
