Library Can Help Improve Job Search Skills
The Crawfordsville District Public Library continues our Job Search Skills Series with weekly drop-in resumé and job application help. We invite you to visit the second floor Info Desk on Monday evenings anytime between 5:30 to 7 p.m. to get help from a librarian with a background in human resources. I am a Library Assistant in the Adult Services department, and before working at the library, I was a human resources professional and recruiter. I also taught resumé writing and interview skills to hundreds of job seekers, and I’m very excited to use this experience to assist library patrons in finding employment.
Never written a resumé before? Need to update your old resumé? Have an online job application to complete? Unsure what information to include in your resumé or job application? This opportunity is for you!
You should bring with you:
- Current resumé (if available)
- Flash drive (recommended)
- Email account and password
- Education history
- Work history (both paid and volunteer)
A flash drive is recommended for saving your resumé, but you can also email it to yourself. If you don’t have your own flash drive, you can purchase one at the second floor desk.
We recommend having basic computer skills to either create a resumé, make edits to an existing resumé, and save or print your document. If you need assistance with these skills, I’d like to recommend our free ongoing Tech Tuesday classes. Each Tuesday evening, we host a beginner-level class in our computer lab on the library’s lower level. The specifics of each session are included on our digital calendar and registration is required. For more information and to sign up, visit the calendar on our website at crawfordsvillelibrary.in.gov/calendar/ or call us at (765) 362-2242, ext. 3.
If you are unable to visit the library on Monday evenings for our drop-in help, we also have some great resources to check out. “Resumés for Dummies, 8th Edition” (650.142 DeC) and “Modernize Your Resumé, 3rd Edition” (650.14 Ene) are both available in the adult nonfiction section on the second floor of the library. These books, in particular, provide up-to-date advice and examples. Additionally, www.themuse.com is a fantastic resource for job seekers and hiring managers alike, providing sample resumés and easy to understand articles to help readers improve their chances of finding a great job.
We look forward to assisting you on the second floor soon! Questions? Please call the Adult Services Info Desk at (765) 362-2242, ext. 3. Our hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lisa Comingore is a Library Assistant in the Adult Services Department at CDPL.
