South Moves Principal Into District Leadership Position

The Southmont Schools Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Ashley Hammond as the corporation’s new Director of Special Education.
Hammond currently serves as Principal of Southmont Sr. High School and brings knowledge of the district, its students and its families to this new leadership role. Her experience as a building administrator, combined with her experience in special education, position her well to lead special education services across the corporation.
“Our focus now is on strengthening programs that allow more of our students to learn and succeed within their home community,” South Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Hofer said. “We are excited about the leadership Mrs. Hammond will provide as we continue building services that meet the needs of every learner at Southmont.”
Hammond previously spent eight years as a special education teacher, serving students with multiple disabilities – including those in Life Skills programs, students with orthopedic impairments and learning disabilities – across elementary, middle and high school settings. She then transitioned into school leadership, serving four years as a high school assistant principal before transitioning to a high school principal for the past seven years.
Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Hofer shared her enthusiasm for the appointment.
As Director of Special Education, Hammond will oversee special education programming, compliance and services for students across all Southmont Schools – working closely with families and staff to ensure students receive the support they need to be successful.
Southmont Schools will begin the selection process for the next high school principal immediately, with plans to have new leadership in place for the upcoming school year.
