JUMP Goes To The Zoo

This past Saturday, the mentors and mentees in the JUMP Program had their monthly group activity at the Indianapolis Zoo. In addition to one on one time spent between a mentor and their mentee, the JUMP program offers a free monthly group activity. This helps the mentors and mentees get to know each and it offers them an activity that they can do that is fun and doesn’t cost anything.

“The Indianapolis Zoo is always a great outing for adults and kids alike,” stated Jill Hampton, JUMP Program Manager. “I don’t think anyone gets tired of seeing all the animals and being able to get up close and even feed some of them. It’s a good time and it’s educational.”

Mentoring a child is fun and it really does help for a child to get out and experience new things. Mentoring also provides a young person with that extra support from a positive role model. Just spending time doing everyday things can help shape a young person’s life.

The JUMP Program can always use volunteers to mentor the children and also kids who could use someone to mentor them. The first step in this process is to contact Jill Hampton at 362-0694 Ext. 103 or email [email protected] to get an application. Once that is complete a face to face interview is required to gather information that will help make a good match between the child and the adult. The program tries to match mentors and children who have similar interests. Please call or email today for more information.
