New Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator
Hello! I am Tricia Herr, and I am the new Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Educator for Montgomery County.
A little about myself:
I was born and raised in Noble County, Indiana and grew up on a small farm raising steers, dairy heifers, and hogs for my 4-H projects. I spent much of my childhood gardening, playing sports with my four older siblings, and milking cows on my uncle’s nearby dairy farm.
I graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and minored in Farm Management. At Purdue I was heavily involved in the Purdue Reamer Club, the caretakers of Purdue’s official mascot, the Boilermaker Special.
After graduation, I worked for Weaver Popcorn Hybrids in New Richmond, IN where I became pleasantly acquainted with Montgomery County. At Weaver I worked as a Research Assistant to the breeding program working to improve the quality of yield trials and the data collected for the success of future popcorn hybrids. I gained experience in commercial hybrid development from hand crosses all the way through seed production and seed sales. I also carry experience from internships at North Central Coop, DOW, and as an Agronomy Research Assistant at Purdue.
I spend much of my spare time traveling to visit family members as much as possible, and being die-hard Purdue fans with my husband. I am excited to be working back in Montgomery County and honored to now work for the community and Purdue Extension. I have great interest in the future of agriculture and am excited to get to share my passion for agriculture and agronomy knowledge with the community.
Don’t hesitate to stop in at the office and say ‘Hello’ and get to know me! I am happy to help with your plant and pest identifications, and your soil samples needs.
I look forward to serving Montgomery County, especially the people in it!
